Everybody wants to be healthy. But not everyone is willing to take the actions needed to maintain good health. It’s easy to put off forming healthy habits, thinking that you’ll get to it later. But later comes sooner than you think. If you want to learn fitness activities that will keep you healthy all of your life, develop these 3 habits that are recommended for good health.

1 – Walk Frequently

Frequent walking is the single most important action you can take to ensure good health as you age. Walking is a low-impact exercise that helps to strengthen muscles, improve circulation, enhance lung function and increase balance. It even helps to improve your mood and keep your brain functioning well. Every day, make opportunities to walk to improve your health. Park a little further away from the entry when going to the store. Take your dog for more walks. Gather some friends to go walking. You will find that walking helps you to look better, feel better and think more clearly.

2 – Learn About Good Nutrition

Your doctor can provide information about the right foods to eat to stay healthy as you age. But there are also many books and websites that provide good information about healthy eating. Make sure your diet is rich in fruits and leafy vegetables, limit the amount of red meat you consume and use healthy oils like olive oil and canola oil. Eat more fish and legumes. Your carbohydrates should include whole grain breads and pasta, as well as brown rice. Avoid processed foods, which are high in salt, sugar and fat. Stop smoking, and limit your alcohol consumption, because these habits are associated with a higher risk for many diseases. You should also learn about supplements, such as those produced by AlgaeCal, that can help your body receive any additional nutrients it needs.

3 – Work Out at the Gym

Joining a gym will allow you to get vigorous exercise, even when the weather is bad and keeps you indoors. Working out on the treadmill helps to keep leg muscles strong and joints flexible. Balance boards and platforms help to improve balance to prevent falls. Ellipical machines helps to strengthen muscles in your legs and core. Working out with free weights helps to strengthen bones. If you engage in regular workouts at your gym, you will be able to maintain a healthy weight, improve cardiovascular function, lower blood pressure and reduce the risk for osteoarthritis.

Maintaining good health is a matter of actively engaging in the actions that promote health, and avoiding those actions that increase the risk for disease. If you follow these tips, you will be following the recommendations that medical professionals advise for staying healthy throughout your life. The actions you take today toward maintaining good health will help you to remain active and vibrant in your later years.
